New car registration drops by 19.8% in Dec

A total of 11,265 new motor vehicles were registered in December 2021, of which 7,773 were automobiles, according to Statistics Finland.

First registrations decreased by 23.9 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In December the number of new passenger cars registered was 6,526, which was 19.8 per cent down from December 2020.

The share of new electric passenger cars was 24.2 per cent and plug-in hybrid electric cars 19.9 per cent.

A total of 2,875 new electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered, which was 12.3 per cent up from the year before.

These data are based on the Traffic Affairs Register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) produced by Statistics Finland. The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

In the January to December period of 2021 a total of 176,389 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an increase of 2.0 per cent.

The number of passenger cars first registered in 2021 was 98,481, which is 2.1 per cent up from the year before. The share of new electric passenger cars was 10.3 per cent.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in 2021 were Toyota, Volkswagen and Skoda.
