New car registration drops by 6.9% in Aug

A total of 13,865 new motor vehicles were registered in August this year, of which 9,328 were automobiles, according to Statistics Finland.
First registrations decreased by 1.3 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.
In August the number of new passenger cars registered was 7,904, which was 6.9 per cent down from the year before.
The share of new electric passenger cars was 10,1 per cent and plug-in hybrid electric cars 17,9 per cent.
A total of 2,218 new electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered, which was 51.6 per cent up from the year before.
The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.
In the January to August period of 2021 a total of 129,523 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an increase of 10.6 per cent.
The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to August period was 72,124, which is 11.0 per cent up from the year before.
The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to August period were Toyota, Volkswagen and Skoda.
