Trade balance shows €265m deficit in April

The trade balance was EUR 265 million in deficit in April, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs.
In January-April, the trade balance ran a deficit of EUR 1.3 billion. In April 2020, the trade balance was EUR 185 million in surplus, but in January-April it was EUR 1.2 billion in deficit, said Finnish Customs in a press release on Monday.
The value of Finnish exports increased by 18.3 per cent, and the value of imports by 29.7 per cent in April year-on-year.
The value of Finnish exports in April was EUR 5.3 billion and the value of imports EUR 5.5 billion.
During the reference month in 2020 exports decreased by 19.2 per cent and imports by 27.0 per cent.
In January-April 2021, the total value of exports increased by 7.4 per cent and the value of imports by 7.1 per cent year-on-year.
Exports to EU member states increased by 21.9 per cent and exports to non-EU countries by 14.3 per cent in April.
Imports from EU countries increased by 33.1 per cent and imports from non-EU countries by 24.6 per cent.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries rose by 7.6 per cent and to non-EU countries by 7.3 per cent.
During the same period, imports from EU member states rose by 7.7 per cent and from other countries by 6.3 per cent.
