Number of jobless people rises by 47,000

The total number of unemployed people in the country stood at 216,000 at the end of July, which is 47,000 more than that one year ago, according to the Statistics Finland.

The rate of unemployment was 7.7%, or 1.7 percentage points higher than that in the previous year.

According to the survey of the Statistics Finland, in July, the number of people in employment was 50,000 less than on the previous year.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in a press release on Tuesday said, at the end of July, a total of 387,500 unemployed jobseekers were registered with the country’s employment and economic development offices, showing a year-on-year increase of 118,500.

The number of unemployed jobseekers in July was 29,400 less than that in June. The number of unemployed jobseekers also includes the fully laid-off.

At the end of July, the number of people laid off was 100,000 in the whole country, posting a year-on-year increase of 83,900. The number of people fully laid-off totalled 82,000, representing an increase of 70,800 from that in July of the year before. The number of people fully laid-off decreased by 35,000 from that in June.

The number of new vacancies reported to the employment and economic development offices in July totalled 46,300, posting a year-on-year decrease of 6,300.

In all, the number of unfilled vacancies at the employment and economic development offices amounted to 86,800 in July, showing a year-on-year decrease of 13,200.
