Iran's COVID-19 cases hit 492,378

Iran reported 4,142 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 492,378. Meanwhile, Morocco reports a record daily high of 3,445 cases, reported Xinhua.

The pandemic has so far taken 28,098 lives in Iran, up by 210 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

A total of 401,379 people have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospitals, while 4,392 remain in intensive care units.

Morocco registered a record daily 3,445 COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally to 146,398. The death toll rose by 44 to 2,530, while 425 patients are in intensive care units, said the health ministry in a press release.

The number of recoveries from the coronavirus in Morocco increased to 123,022 after 2,747 more recoveries were added during the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Casablanca remains the worst-hit region in the country with 1,490 new confirmed cases and 18 deaths during the last 24 hours.

The Iraqi Health Ministry reported 3,214 new cases, bringing the nationwide infections to 397,780. It also reported 52 more deaths, raising the death toll from the virus to 9,735 in the country.

The ministry said 4,282 more patients recovered during the day, which is higher than the number of infected cases during the same period, taking the total number of recoveries to 328,097, or 82.5 percent of the total infections.

Saudi Arabia reported 407 new coronavirus cases and 24 more deaths, pushing the tally of COVID-19 cases in the kingdom to 338,539 and the death toll to 4,996. The total recoveries increased to 324,282 with the addition of 513 new recoveries.

Turkey announced 1,629 new COVID-19 infections and 55 more deaths, raising the total confirmed cases to 332,382 and the death toll to 8,722.

The total number of recoveries increased to 291,754, according to the Turkish Health Ministry.

Israel's Ministry of Health reported 2,522 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 287,858. The number of death cases reached 1,886, with 22 new fatalities.

The number of recoveries reached 225,248, with 3,677 new ones, while active cases currently stand at 60,722.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced 1,075 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 104,004.

At the same time, 1,424 more patients have recovered from the virus, taking the tally of recoveries in the UAE to 94,903, UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said.

The Qatari health ministry announced 206 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 127,600.

The ministry said 232 more recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 124,559, while the fatalities increased by one to 219.

Kuwait reported 635 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 110,076 and the death toll to 649, the Health Ministry said in a statement. Currently, 7,403 patients are receiving treatment, including 125 in ICU, according to the statement.

The ministry also announced the recovery of 710 more patients, raising the total recoveries in the country to 102,024.

Egypt reported late on Thursday 121 new infections and seven deaths of COVID-19, bringing the total cases registered in the country to 104,156, including 6,017 deaths, said the Egyptian Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, 32 patients completely recovered from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, increasing the total recoveries to 97,524, Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.

Palestine reported 498 new cases infected with the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the Palestinian territories to 54,853. The death toll hit 431.

Secretary General of Palestine Liberation Organization Saeb Erekat said on Friday that he has been tested positive for COVID-19.

"Thank you to those who prayed for me and wished me quick recovery after I was tested positive for COVID-19," Erekat said on Twitter, adding he isolates himself at home in the West Bank city of Jericho.
