A total of 10 people have been killed and three others injured as a result of rains and floods that hit various areas in Sudan during the past days, said the Sudanese National Council for Civil Defence on Thursday, reported Xinhua.

"The death toll from the rains rose to 10 besides three injuries with complete collapse of 1,872 houses and partial collapse of 1,508 houses," the council said in its daily report.

It noted that thunderstorms have been monitored in various areas of the country, expecting rains in Kassala, Gadaref, greater Kordofan, greater Darfur, Blue Nile and Gezira states.

The council urged the citizens to be alert, particularly those living near water courses, calling on users of highways to adopt the necessary measures.

During June and October every year, Sudan often witnesses waves of floods due to heavy rains.
