I have never felt untouchable at Real Madrid: Zidane

Zinedine Zidane on Friday said he has never felt “untouchable” at Real Madrid, reported EFE-EPA.

The French coach, who has come under increasing scrutiny after a string of bad results, insisted he felt “strong” enough to overcome the current poor run and expressed his complete faith in his players.

“I have never thought I was untouchable, not as a player, a manager nor as a person. Everyone is here for a reason, and I’m going to keep on going until the final day," he said in a press conference before the last training session for Saturday afternoon’s LaLiga game against Sevilla.

“I have overcome complicated moments in the past, it has always been tough. And it is now, but I feel strong enough to find solutions. My players are going to give me the opportunity to do that with a good game against big rivals,” he added.

He acknowledged that this was his most challenging moment on the Madrid bench.

“We have already had tricky moments with criticism and right now might be the toughest, but I don’t think about that, I’m positive and tomorrow we have a chance to show that we are a good team.

“We know the situation we’re in,” he added. “I have a lot of confidence in my players and we have to demonstrate what Real Madrid is as a team.”

Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign hangs in the balance this year after they lost a second-leg group tie to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday. They also lost the first-leg in October.

In LaLiga, the defending league champions have failed to get off the ground.

Zidane’s men lost against Alaves last weekend, having drawn with Villareal and lost to Valencia before that.

If they lose against Sevilla tomorrow, they will drop into 5th and Zidane’s job may come under more pressure still.
