Halla-aho decides to quit Perussuomalaiset Chair

Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) Chairman Jussi Halla-aho on Monday announced that he will not continue as the party chair after the next annual council scheduled for August.

Halla-aho, the leader of the main opposition in the parliament made the sudden announcement on the party website.

The leader of the populist party of the country, however, claimed that he already informed the party insiders last year in this regard.

But he will continue as a lawmaker in the parliament, said the announcement.

The Perussuomalaiset elected Jussi Halla-aho as the Chairman of the party in June 2017 since its founding Chairman Timo Soini left.

Halla-aho is well-known for his strict anti-immigration views, was re-elected the party chair unopposed in June 2019.

He was also convicted of inciting hatred against an ethnic group in 2012.
