22 killed in road mishaps in August

At least 22 people were killed and 543 other injured in 427 road accidents in Finland in August, according to the Statistics Finland.

The number of deaths was one lower and the number of injured persons was 36 higher than in August 2019.

Out of the people who were killed, 12 were travelling by private cars, one by van and four by motorcycles.

Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. In addition, two other road users were killed. Among the dead, 14 were men and eight were women.

Meanwhile, a total of 149 people were killed and 2,934 others injured in 2,374 road accidents in the country in January to August.

The number of deaths was four more and that of persons injured 364 less than that in the corresponding period of 2019.

Out of the dead people, 89 were travelling by private cars, seven by vans, 15 by motorcycles and two by lorry.

Pedestrians killed numbered 15 and cyclists 14. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
