Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her Norwegian counterpart Erna Solberg on Wednesday held a video conference when they discussed various issues such as the coronavirus situation and cooperation between the neighbouring countries, said a government press release.

The prime ministers discussed the actions taken in their countries to mitigate the COVID-19 crisis, security of supply and issues related to the opening of borders.

They also confirmed the objective of intensifying security and defence cooperation between Norway and Finland and the Nordic countries.

They highlighted the importance of Nordic cooperation in the areas of green growth, digitalisation and strengthening democracy.

Finland will promote these themes next year during its presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The prime ministers also underlined the significance of efforts to strengthen the UN, which is the cornerstone of the multilateral order.

Marin congratulated Norway for being elected a member of the UN Security Council for 2021-2022.
