Helsinki ranks highly in smart city indexes in 2019

Helsinki was ranked highly in smart city index in many categories in 2019, said a press release issued by the City of Helsinki.

In addition to Helsinki being named the European Capital of Smart Tourism, other accolades included Kalasatama’s digital twin winning first prize at TechFest and the Helsinki-Uusimaa region being ranked the most innovative region in Europe.

The European Commission named Helsinki last year’s European Capital of Smart Tourism.

Several areas in Helsinki, such as Kalasatama, are constantly attracting innovation tourists interested in smart city solutions.

The City of Helsinki’s Kalasatama Digital Twins project won the Cities Visionary Award and the Judges’ Supreme Award at the TechFest event held in London in late September.

The European Commission ranked the Helsinki-Uusimaa region as the most innovative region in the European Union in its Innovation Scoreboard 2019 study.

A survey by the Financial Times ranked Helsinki-Uusimaa as the best mid-sized European region for foreign investments.

Helsinki was ranked the happiest city in the world with the best work-life balance in a study by US-based Kisi.

Helsinki was ranked the fifth best smart city in the world in Eden Strategy Institute’s ranking.
