1 more death, 280 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The country’s coronavirus death toll has reached 919 as one more patient died in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS) in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 88, 078 as 280 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 5,374. Of them, 4,521 are UK variants, 852 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 596 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 100 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 84 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 82 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 57 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 127 coronavirus patients, including 27 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,591 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
