No new coronavirus death, infection count 70267

The total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 70, 267 as 770 new cases were diagnosed in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.

The coronavirus death toll in Finland, however, remains at 805 as no new death has been reported in that time.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 1,963. Out of them, 1,823 were UK variants, 139 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 523 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 84 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 67 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 52 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 271 coronavirus patients, including 55 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,269 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
