Deaths corrected to 353

219 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 14,474 as 219 more cases have been diagnosed in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.

Meanwhile, the THL on Friday made correction to the number of deaths from COVID-19 to 353 from 355 as announced on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, THL said three patients died in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) and one died in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District.

According to the correction, one patient died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one died in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District while no death was reported in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) on Wednesday.

The last coronavirus death was reported on 21 October.

So far a total of 284 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 25 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 21 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 14 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS), and nine in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District.

Until Friday, 9,800 or more than 70% coronavirus-infected patients in Finland had recovered.

A total of 70 coronavirus patients, including 11 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,543,233), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 261 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 20,000 samples a day.
