Hostage-taker shot dead in France

Security forces stormed the supermarket in Trebes, Aude department of southwestern France, where a hostage-taking happened on Friday, and shot dead the hostage taker, the BFMTV reported.

The man claiming allegiance to the Islamic State took several people hostage at a supermarket in southwestern France on Friday, local media reported.

The unidentified man entered a Super U supermarket in Trebes town, and gunshots were heard later.

At least two people have been shot in the incident.

The same individual was suspected of shooting four gendarmes a few minutes earlier while they were jogging in Carcassonne, wounding one.

The Interior Ministry said on Twitter that security officials were carrying out an operation.
