New car registration in August drops 15%

A total of 14,044 new motor vehicles were registered in the country in August, of which 9,837 were automobiles, according to the Statistics Finland.

First registrations decreased by 13.2 per cent from that in the corresponding month of the previous year.

In August the number of new private cars registered was 8,485, which is 15.1 per cent down year on year.

The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 14.8 per cent.

These data are based on the Traffic Affairs Register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) and the numbers are exclusive of the vehicles registered on the Åland Islands.

A total of 117,102 vehicles were first registered in the January to August period of 2020. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous, there was a decrease of 12.2 per cent.

The number of private cars first registered in the January to August period was 64,976, which is 18.3 per cent down year on year.

The most common private car makes first registered in the period were Toyota, Skoda, and Volkswagen.
