Unemployment rate drops to 8.9% in June

The rate of unemployment in the country stood at 8.9 per cent in June this year, which is 0.4 percentage points lower than that in the same month in 2016.

The unemployment rate was 9.3 per cent in June 2016, according to the Statistics Finland.

The number of unemployed persons in June 2017 was 250,000 or 14,000 less than one year ago.

The number of employed people is 15,000 more than the previous year. The unemployment rate in the April-June quarter stood at 9.9 per cent compared to 10.00 per cent in the respective quarter of 2016.

In June 2017, the number of employed persons was 2,573,000 (margin of error ±34,000), which is 15,000 more than a year ago. There were 17,000 fewer employed men and 33,000 more employed women than in June 2016.

In June 2017, the employment rate that is the proportion of the employed persons aged 15 to 64 stood at 72.5 per cent compared to that of 72.00 per cent one year ago.

The employment rate for men fell by 1.3 percentage points from last year’s June to 73.5 per cent. Women’s employment rate rose by 2.2 percentage points to 71.5 per cent. Adjusted for seasonal and random variation, the trend of the employment rate was 69.2 per cent.

According to the Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey, there were 250,000 unemployed persons in June 2017 (margin of error ±20,000), i.e. 14,000 less than one year earlier. The number of unemployed men was 136,000 and that of women 114,000.

Men’s unemployment rate was 9.2 per cent and women’s 8.4 per cent. The trend of the unemployment rate was 8.7 per cent.
