Metro service from Matinkylä to Kivenlahti opens

The extended metro service from Matinkylä to Kivenlahti in Espoo opened on Saturday morning, said the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (Helsingin seudun liikenne – HSL) in a press release.

The new section of metro line will provide direct journeys from western Espoo to the Helsinki city center.

It is seven kilometers long, with five new stations: Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti.

The HSL, City of Espoo, Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd, Länsimetro Ltd and the Lippulaiva shopping center jointly organized a grand opening on the occasion.

There were activities at every station during the day. The main event of the grand opening was held at the Lippulaiva shopping center near the Espoonlahti Metro Station in the morning.

Now there will are 30 metro stations in total. The metro network in Helsinki and Espoo is now 43 kilometers long.

Earlier, the metro was extended from Ruoholahti to Matinkylä with eight new stations in 2017.
