Finland´s dream to play in the Qatar World Cup was ended when they lost to the World Champion France by 0-2 in their last group match held in Helsinki Olympic Stadium late Tuesday night.

Although the Finns held the visitors goalless draw in the first half and created several chances for score, substitute Karim Benzema broke the hearts of about 32 thousand spectators in the stadium after he took lead for France in the 66th minute.

Before the strike by Benzema, the hosts clearly dominated the match over France at the end of first half and early second half.

When the Finns were trying hard to level score Kylian Mbappe increased the gap in the 76th minute to ensure victory for France in their last Group D match.

Finland, who were eying to secure a playoff spot, ended up third in the group with 11 points, just one point behind Ukraine, who also qualified to the final round along with France beating Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) by 2-0.
