2 more deaths, 348 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The total coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 862 as two more people died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

The THL also made corrections to the death figures it gave yesterday in the HUS and the Turku Hospital District (TYKS).

According to the corrected figures, the number of deaths in the HUS increased by one to 558 and the number reduced by one to 92 in the TYKS on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 80,416 on Wednesday, as 348 new cases were diagnosed in the previous 24 hours.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 2,700. Of them, 2,474 were UK variants, 225 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 560 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 92 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 80 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 76 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 54 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 250 coronavirus patients, including 45 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,452 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
