3 servicemen killed in Russian helicopter crash

A Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian National Guard crashed during a training flight near St. Petersburg on Thursday, killing three servicemen on board, reported Xinhua.

   Local residents were not injured, TASS news agency reported, adding that the incident caused a fire on the ground, which has been extinguished.

   The unarmed chopper belongs to the transport and combat squadron of the Northwestern District of the Russian National Guard.

   A commission of the Northwestern District has left for the site of the crash and an investigation is underway, TASS reported.
