Uruguay's former President Jose Mujica on Thursday paid a visit to former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in jail.

Lula has been serving a 12-year sentence for corruption and money laundering in the headquarters of the Federal Police in Curitiba of Parana state, southern Brazil, since early April.

Mujica said that he visited Lula for about 15 minutes, during which they talked about Latin America's problems. Lula is "very concerned about the fate of Brazil," Mujica said.

Before entering the police facility, Mujica made a speech to the militants who have been camping near the headquarters since Lula was imprisoned.

"Men and women may be physically arrested, but their causes are never in prison, because they go with the arms and feet of the comrades," he said.

Mujica also expressed his wishes that Brazil will recover from its problems soon, and said that when Brazil fares well, so does his country.
