Israeli fighter jets and drones on Tuesday intensified striking military posts and facilities in the Gaza Strip in response to continued rocket fire into Israel, eyewitnesses said.

Eyewitnesses in Gaza city told Xinhua that the buzz of the Israeli military drones, which hovered over the Gaza Strip, mixed with the huge sounds of bombing resulted from the air strikes, reported Xinhua.

The eyewitnesses said the fighter jets also struck two apartments in the Beach refugee camp in western Gaza city that belong to an Islamic Jihad militant, adding that a woman was killed and two men were injured.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the health ministry in Gaza, said in a press statement that the death toll since Monday afternoon had climbed to 23, including nine children, and 110 people were injured.

Military groups, including the armed wings of the Islamic Resistance Movement, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a smaller militant group in Gaza, and other minor groups, fired more than 200 rockets overnight and on Tuesday from the Gaza Strip towards Israel.

Tensions between Israel and Palestinians have been flaring over the past few days due to escalated clashes in East Jerusalem between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli police forces.
