Chile on Monday reported a total of 361,493 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 9,707 have died of the disease, reported Xinhua.

According to the Health Ministry daily report, in the previous 24 hours, tests detected 1,762 new cases of infection and 99 more patients died.

Of the new cases, 1,119 presented symptoms and 527 were asymptomatic, with the other 116 cases showing no specific notification.

Health officials said 17,810 cases are considered active, while 333,976 people have recovered.

Chile is under a state of catastrophe declared months ago to better enforce lockdown and social distancing measures with the help of the army and police force, including a nighttime curfew.

The Chilean government has begun a plan to gradually reactivate its economy with lockdown measures partially lifted in some parts of the country.
