U.S. Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies fatally shot a man in Knightsen in Northern California Thursday night after he opened fire, striking three deputies, officials said, reported Xinhua.

Two deputy sheriffs were injured after being shot by the suspect in the incident, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies were called to a home in Knightsen regarding a domestic violence incident on Thursday morning. A female victim reported that the suspect held her hostage overnight, and threatened to set her on fire, sheriff's office said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Deputy sheriffs responded to the location to investigate and talked to the suspect. At about 9 p.m., the suspect came out of the house and fired his shotgun at members of the SWAT team. Deputies returned fire and killed the suspect at the scene.

The suspect's name was not released and the incident is under investigation.
