Floods kill 3, affect thousands in China

Torrential rain since Monday night has battered southwest China's Yunnan Province, and led to flooding in the city of Zhaotong, killing three people and affecting the lives of over 28,300 people as of 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, local authorities said, reported Xinhua.

A total of 3,548 hectares of crops such as corn, potatoes, and tobacco leaves were hit, and 61 hectares of crops were demolished, said the city's emergency management office, reported Xinhua.

Infrastructures such as electricity, transport, and telecommunications have been damaged to varying degrees as well, it said.
