Finnish airports see 75% decrease of passengers in 2020

A total of 6.5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in 2020, which was 75 per cent lower than that in the previous year, according to the Statistics Finland.

Of the passengers 69 per cent came from international flights and 31 per cent from domestic flights.

There were 5.1 million passengers at Helsinki Airport and a total of 1.4 million passengers at other domestic airports.

Helsinki Airport accounted for 79 per cent of passengers at domestic airports.

Meanwhile, a total of 198,979 passengers flew through Finnish airports in December 2020, which was 91 per cent lower than that in 12 months earlier.

There were 147,822 passengers at Helsinki Airport and 51,157 at other domestic airports. Helsinki Airport accounted for 74 per cent of all passengers at domestic airports.

In December 2020, the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport decreased by 91 per cent and the combined number of passengers at other Finnish airports also went down by 91 per cent compared to that in December 2019.

In January to December 2020, the volume of air freight and mail transport totalled 132,032 tonnes, which was 42 per cent lower than that in one year before.

Of the tonnes, 98 per cent passed through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent were transported in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether, 72,095 tonnes of the transported volume of goods were outgoing and 59,938 tonnes incoming.
