Finns win junior Ice Hockey World trophy beating USA

Finland became the champions of the Ice Hockey junior World Championship 2019 beating USA by three goals to two in the final held at Vancouver in Canada late Saturday night.

Kaapo Kakko scored the final goal with 1:26 left to ensure the victory for the young Lions to bring the gold for the country.

Jesse Ylonen and Otto Latvala also scored one goal each for the team Finland in the final match.

Alexander Chmelevski and Josh Norris scored one goal each for the runners-up team USA.

With this, Finland won the world junior Ice Hockey title for fifth time. Earlier, the young Lions won the trophy in 1987, 1998, 2014, and 2016.

"We don’t think of ourselves as underdogs, never," reported IIHF quoting Finnish coach Jussi Ahokas, adding, “but the big thing was for us to win in the small rink. We haven’t done that before and now we’ve done that also. That’s the big thing for Finnish hockey. I think we’re producing better players than in the past."
