FC Barcelona faces further upheavals after it was confirmed on Wednesday that a proposed non-confidence motion against club President Josep Maria Bartomeu has received enough support for Barcelona club members to permit it to go ahead, reported Xinhua.

The club itself issued a communique confirming that the no-confidence motion had received the support of 18,090 fans: more than the 16,521 needed for a referendum to be called under club statutes.

Jordi Farre, one of those behind the motion said he wanted to "thank all of the members who have signed. We had started to get the idea that we would manage it," he commented.

The club is set to hold elections to choose a new president in March 2021, with Bartomeu already confirming that he would not be a candidate, but Farre now expects that the support for a no-confidence motion will probably bring those elections forward.

"I don't think the no-confidence vote will happen because Bartomeu and his Board of Directors will resign. I ask them to avoid that vote and to call elections as soon as possible," he commented.

If the elections are indeed brought forward, it could mean further upheaval at the Camp Nou given that one of the favorites to replace Bartomeu, Victor Font, has already said he does not want Ronaldo Koeman as first team coach.
