Fourteen national federations, including a joint bid from Denmark and Norway, have expressed interest in hosting the European Handball Championships for both men and women in 2026 and 2028, the European Handball Federation (EHF) said on Monday.

As part of the process, federations were entitled to make joint bids and handball giants Denmark and Norway joined forces to officially make their joint bid to host four tournaments: Men's EHF Euro 2026, Men's EHF Euro 2028, Women's EHF Euro 2026 and Women's EHF Euro 2028.

"This is the highest amount of interest we have received from federations showing an intent to host our flagship national team tournaments. These numbers once again prove that this event remains the most highly sought-after national team event in our sport and shows that the develop of handball continues to grow," said EHF president Michael Wiederer.

Evaluations of bids will take place in May and June 2021 followed by site inspections and further evaluations until September 2021 when the successful bids will be announced at an EHF Extraordinary Conference in November 2021 to coincide with the 30-year anniversary of the EHF.

The upcoming Women's EHF Euro 2020 in December will be hosted by Norway and Denmark.
