European 1,500m and 5,000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a new Norweigian 5km road record at 13 minutes and 28 seconds on Wednesday in Stavanger, Norway, slicing nine seconds off the previous record, according to World Athletics reports.

"It was fun to put a race number on my chest again, finally," said Ingebrigtsen. "But I had to wake my body up."

The 19-year-old broke the record in a five-member race with his brother Henrik, who finished second in 13:32, also faster than the previous national record of 13:37 set by Sondre Nordstad Moen last year.

Kenya's Rhonex Kipruto had his world record of 13:18 ratified earlier this month with Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei waiting for ratification for his 12:51 result achieved in February.
