Messi doantes €1m to fight against coronavirus

Leo Messi has made his contribution to the fight against COVID-19 with a donation reported to be one million euros to hospitals in Argentina and also the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona.

The Barcelona-based hospital confirmed the donation in a tweet.

The Hospital Clinic explained that the money would be used to help investigation into the virus and also to purchase ventilators to help people who need assisted breathing because of the virus.

Messi is not the first person linked to the world of football to make a donation to combat the coronavirus, with Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola donating a reported million euros to the Fundacion Angel Daniel Soler to purchase sanitary equipment.

Real Madrid football club has also made a donation, the President of the Madrid regional government, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, has confirmed.
