Real Madrid announced on Thursday that both its football and basketball first teams have been placed in quarantine after a member of the "basketball first team has tested positive for coronavirus."

The club confirmed the news which explains that the "recommendation of remaining in quarantine has been followed with immediate effect, with this measure applied to both the basketball and football first teams, given that the two squads share the facilities at Real Madrid City."

The players arrived at training as usual on Thursday but abandoned the facilities at the club's Valdebebas training ground shortly afterwards along with workers at the club.

"A decision has been made to close our training ground and it is recommended that all Real Madrid staff who work at Real Madrid City remain in quarantine," explained Real Madrid.

The news comes shortly after the Spanish Football League (LaLiga) announced that all games in the Liga Santander and Liga Smart Bank (first and second divisions) would be suspended for at least two weeks, while the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Wednesday that the final of the Copa del Rey scheduled for April 18th has been suspended along with all non-professional football.

Real Madrid's basketball team had played a Euroleague game in Milan on March 3rd and the Euroleague has also confirmed it will suspend its competition for the forseable future.
