Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas set a new world indoor record in Madrid on Friday night.

The 24-year-old Rojas, who lives in the Spanish city of Guadalajara (central Spain), jumped 15.43 meters, beating the previous indoor record of 15.36m, held by Russian Tatiana Lebedeva.

After setting the new record with her sixth and final jump of the day, Rojas, thanked her coach Ivan Pedroso.

"Ivan said today was going to be my day. I worked hard to for this and here it is," she said, looking ahead to the Tokyo Olympics.

"I think I can win. It would leave my mark in athletics," she said, before giving her thanks to the fans in Madrid.

"I am happy on this track; they treat me as if I was from here and I feel as if I am one of them," commented Rojas.
