World No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic knocked out Canadian rising Denis Shapovalov in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 here on Wednesday at the Shanghai Masters to advance to the round of 16.

Shapovarov currently ranks 36th in the ATP rankings. His past two matches with Djokovic both took place this season, and Djokovic sealed two victories. Shapovarov did manage to make Djokovic drop a set at the Australian Open this year.

In the first set, Djokovic only lost one service point.

In the second set, Shapovarov got his only break chance in the game, but failed to make it happen. Though Djokovic wasted a match point in one of Shapovarov's serves at the end of the set, he did not give Shapovarov any more chances.

Djokovic had high praise for his opponent. "There is Felix and Denis and Hurkacz and guys like this that are playing really well, and on a given day they can really beat anybody," he said.

Djokovic will meet American John Isner in the round of 16.
