The United States edged Turkey 93-92 in overtime, becoming one of the six more teams making it to the last 16 round at the FIBA basketball World Cup on Tuesday.

The other five teams are Australia, Lithuania, Dominican Republic, France and Brazil.

Turkey led 92-91 with nine seconds left for an otherwise biggest upset of the ongoing World Cup, but the Turks missed all four free throws in the dying minutes to squander their best chance.

Turkey will fight for its last 16 spot with a game against the Czech Republic who downed Japan 89-76 on Tuesday.

In Group F, NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was cornered throughout and scored only 13 points as his Greece side was edged 79-78 by Brazil, while Brazilian Anderson Varejao scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

After Leandro Barbosa and Varejao made a fantastic pick-and-roll play and Brazil led by three points at 79-76, Greece squandered its last chance to force an overtime as guard Nick Calathes only made two of his three free throws in the dying seconds.

Greece led the first half but was overtaken in the third quarter in which Brazil won by 26-13 and led for good till the end of the game.

Australia downed Senegal 81-68 in Group H and reached the next stage together with Lithuania. Patty Mills pocketed a game-high 22 points and Joe Ingles had 17 points, including four three-pointers and 10 rebounds. Xane Dalmeida had a team-high 14 points for Senegal.

Also advancing is Lithuania who won over Canada 92-69. Edgaras Ulanovas pocketed a team-high 15 points, Jonas Valanciunas had 13 and eight rebounds.

Germany suffered two consecutive defeats in Group G, losing 70-68 to the Dominican Republic who secured its last 16 spot with one game in hand.

France smashed Jordan to make it to the last 16, and will play the Dominican Republic to decide winner of their group.
