Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas will start on pole position in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix after finishing ahead of his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in Saturday's final qualifying session at Barcelona's Montmelo race circuit.

It is Bottas' third consecutive pole positon as he finished 0.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton and 0.8 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Max Verstappen in his Red Bull will start fourth, with the second Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc in fifth ahead of Red Bull's Pierre Gasly.

"I really enjoyed it ... I enjoy the adrenaline rush you get from those laps," commented Bottas after qualifying.

Hamilton was full of praise for his companion. "Valtteri did a fantastic job, he's been quick all weekend," said Hamilton, who lamented that he "didn't put the lap together ... Ultimately it just wasn't a good enough job."

"It's great for the team to have this one-two so we'll try and convert that, but if I can reverse it I'll be happy," concluded Hamilton.
