Finns lose to USA in Women´s Ice Hockey WC final

Finland had to satisfied with silver in the 2019 Ice Hockey Women's World Championship as the host lost to the United States of America in the tiebreaker shootouts in the final.

The results of the final match was settled through penalty shutouts as the match was ended with 1-1 draw in the stipulated periods and an extra period at Metro Arena in Espoo late Sunday night..

Although the Petra Nieminen of Finland had scored in the sudden death but the gold dream of the Finns was foiled as the referee cancelled it following a review.

"Sport is tough and hard sometimes, but after the game you need to accept what is in the scoreboard," said Finnish captain and tournament MVP Jenni Hiirikoski in a bulletin posted in the IIHF website.

"Life goes on, and we will be super proud of what we have done here."

Nonetheless, the Finns put an impressive performance in the final as they had demonstrated throughout the tournament on the way winning the first silver medal in the tournament.

The Americans opened the scoring in the second period courtesy of Annie Pankowski goal. The Finns equalised through Susanna Tapani a couple of minutes later in the regulation period.

Earlier, Finland beat Switzerland by 6-2, Russia by 4-0, Czech Republic by 3-1 in quarter-finals, Canada by 4-2 in semi-finals and lost to USA by 2-6 and Canada by 1-6 in the group level of the tournament.
