Foreign Minister Timo Soini on Monday said that he was unaware whether there are any Finns among the foreign fighters held in Syria, reported national broadcaster Yle.

There are about 800 foreign fighters arrested according to SDF Kurdish-led troops which has been fighting Isis. This is in addition to 700 wives and 1500 children who are in refugee camps.

On Sunday US president Donald Trump asked the European countries to take their own citizens from Syria and bring them to justice. According to Soini the demand (by Trump) "does not arouse great interest".

In reference to Isis and its activities, Soini expressed no sympathy for those involved in outrageous activities of such a brutal organisation.

Soini said he was of the same opinion as Prime Minister Juha Sipilä who in an interview with Yle on Sunday said Finland has no interest in taking prisoners from Syria.
