Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Wednesday went on a sick leave for two days, said a government press release.

The nature of sickness, however, has not been disclosed.

The national broadcaster Yle, meanwhile, has reported that the prime minister is expected to return in time to host a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, who is scheduled to visit Helsinki on September 26.

“It’s not anything serious,” the Yle report quoted Director of Government Communications Päivi Anttikoski as saying. “At this point it appears that he will return to work as usual on Friday.”

Finance Minister Petteri Orpo, who also holds the portfolio of deputy prime minister, will preside over the cabinet meetings and answer questions made to the prime minister in parliament on Thursday.
