80% Russians arrive in transit to other Schengen countries

A total of 8314 Russians entrered into Finland through land borders on Sunday and most of the arrivals were in transit to other (Schengen) countries, said the Finnish Border Guard on Monday.

The number was 8 572 on Saturday.

A total of 5068 Russians, however, exited via land borders on Sunday.

Meanwhile, up to 80% of arriving Russians are in transit to other (Schengen) countries, Head of Int Affairs Unit of Finnish Border Guard Matti Pitkäniitty wrote in twitter post late Monday night, quoting Chief of the Border Guard Lieutenant General Pasi Kostamovaara as saying.

“Border traffic stays at elevated level. At the moment I follow number of asylum seekers and illegal border crossings,” Pitkäniitty added.

Traffic still busy. Growth leveled off over the weekend - Saturday was the busiest day so far in terms of arrivals, said Finnish Border Guard.

Earlier on Sunday, Border Guard said that an increasing number of Russian people arrived in Finland through land borders during the weekend.
