Kokoomus tops in popularity followed by Perussuomalaiset, SDP

The popularity of the opposition Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) increased significantly in the last month making the party the most popular in the country, according to the municipal election survey report released by the national broadcaster Yle on Thursday.

According to the survey findings, the popularity of the Kokoomus increased by 1.4% to 20.2% from that in the previous month´s survey.

The main opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) was placed second on the popularity list with 18.2% popularity, although its support declined by 0.8% from that in the previous month.

The ruling Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) became third popular party with 18.1% support and its popularity increased by 0.1% month on month.

The Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland), the second largest component of the alliance government, remained at the fourth place, although its popularity also dropped 0.8 per cent to 11.7% month on month, while the popularity of the Vihreä Liitto (Green League), another component of the government, decreased by 1.5% to 10.6 from that in the previous month.

The support for the ruling Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance), however, increased by 0.2% to 8 %, while the popularity of the remaining component of the government, the Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) increased by 1% to 5.3%.

The opposition Suomen Kristillisdemokraati (Christian Democratic Party) lost popularity by 0.8% to 3.2% from the results of the previous month’s polls.

The survey interviewed 2,712 people on 6 April to 4 May and the margin of error was +/- 1.9 percentage points.
