The government is likely to defer the municipal polls slated for 18 April to sometime in June considering the coronavirus outbreak, reported a Finnish language evening tabloid, the Iltalehti, quoting Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson.

The report also said that the fresh schedule for the elections will be announced on Saturday.

The secretaries of the parliamentary parties met the officials of the justice ministry on Friday and the discussions will continue on Saturday morning to take the final decision in this regard, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

Earlier, on 28 February, Henriksson in an interview with the Yle said the government was reviewing the situation to see if it demands a postponement of the 28 April municipal polls.

She also discussed the issue with the secretaries of the parliamentary parties on 27 February.
