The Helsinki police on Monday started an investigation into a dance party held at Sörnäinen in Helsinki in between late Saturday night and early Sunday, said the police in a press release on Monday.

Videos shared on different social media showed several people dancing at the party without wearing masks or maintaining safe distancing during a DJ event, reported the media.

The police said they have gathered more information about the nature of the party and decided to start a criminal investigation into the matter.

Although a Helsinki police patrol visited the spot, it did not interfere with it, assuming the event being a private one, as per the information the police had at that time.

“The issue has become a public agenda and the event was reflected on the social media. The Helsinki police have received information retrospectively on the nature of the party, and based on this we have decided to launch an investigation into the matter,” said Helsinki Police Superintendent Heikki Porola in a press release.

He said the restrictions set by the Regional State Administrative Agency (Aluehallintovirasto) should be followed accordingly.
