Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Sunday said the coronavirus situation in the country was getting worse quickly, which might lead to continuing the restricted measures for a longer period than expected.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Question Hour on Yle Radio 1, she also said that Finland is lagging on suppressing the virus, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

“It could well be that the situation has grown so bad that these measures cannot be very short in duration. They are in place for three weeks at first, but it could be that we are forced to continue them after that,” the Yle quoted the PM as saying.

Comparing the situation in the autumn with the situation in the spring, she pointed out that the massive restrictions were imposed in the spring before any death and only few people were admitted to the hospital that time.

At the present situation, more than 150 people were in the hospitals and 20 people in the intensive care units and the situation may further worsen quickly.

She, however, said that it was good that the seriousness of the situation was now understood in the country.
