The Helsinki police arrested a gang of Romanian drug paddlers in Helsinki area and recovered a huge number of illegal pills from them in September, said the Helsinki police in a press release on Thursday.
Prompted by a tip-off, the law-enforcing agency held a dozen of people including five Romanian nationals along with 200,000 illegal pills.
After preliminary investigations, the five Romanian citizens were arrested and kept in custody for further legal process.
The Romanian gang made more than 300,000 euros in profit by selling the illegal pills in different quarters of the capital city and adjoining Puotila and Kallio areas, said the police.
They distributed Rivotril and Alprazolam tablets as recreational drugs in many places including Puhos shopping centre. The medicines are dubbed ‘euro pills’ as each of the tablets is sold at one euro.
The police completed the preliminary investigation and handed the case over to the prosecutor for consideration of charges this week.
The gang arrived in Finland only for committing the crimes, said the police.
