The City of Helsinki and the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) on Tuesday announced that the authorities are planning to impose restrictions on organising public events and reintroduce distance learning, following the spread of coronavirus in the metropolitan area.

The announcement came from a joint press conference, where the authorities said that the Metropolitan Area coronavirus coordination group will meet on 26 November to prepare a series of stricter recommendations and restrictions scheduled for release on the following day, said the City of Helsinki in a press release.

The coronavirus coordination group will meet this week to draw up a new set of recommendations and restrictions to address the COVID-19 pandemic, which was recently upgraded to the community transmission phase in the region.

The new recommendations will be effective from 27 November.

Among other things, the group will deliberate the possibility of additional recommendations and restrictions on the arrangement of public events, distance learning in area schools and the opening hours of public spaces.
