The Helsinki District Court on Wednesday sentenced a Finnish national to a one-year suspended imprisonment and fined 43,000 euros for committing vandalism in a toilet of an aircraft of the national flag carrier Finnair.
The 42-year-old passenger made the unwanted incident in 2017 aboard a Vietnam-bound flight of Finnair from Helsinki.
The court also ordered the convict to cover the legal costs of the airline in the case.
According to the court verdict, the convict became angry as a flight attendant refused to accept a payment when the passenger wanted to make an inflight purchase using a Finnair gift card.
The angry passenger went to a toilet of the aircraft and committed vandalism there.
When the passenger returned to his seat from the toilet, the attendants, who heard noise coming from the toilet and checked it. They found many things vandalised there.
The convict attempted to pull the cabinet away from under the cubicle’s sink, tried to break one door, damaged the wall behind it in the process and broke a towel rack off from the mirrored wall.
