Kiuru survives no-confidence motion by 106-79 votes

Family Affairs and Social Services Minister Krista Kiuru survived a no-confidence motion in the parliament on Wednesday over the use of masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister won the no-confidence motion by 106 votes to 79 where 13 lawmakers remained absent and one refrained from the voting.

The opposition Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) brought the no-confidence motion holding the minister responsible for disseminating misleading information on the use of masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

The lawmakers of the ruling five-party alliance government expressed their confidence over the minister as Prime Minister Sanna Marin announced earlier.

“The government relied on the latest advice from health authorities in fighting the epidemic. This has also been the case for the mask recommendation. Kiuru has performed her duties in an exceptionally difficult situation,” Marin said last week following the opposition´s move against the Family Affairs and Social Services Minister.
