President, PM praised for coronavirus communications: Poll

The majority of the respondents to a poll appreciated President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin for their role in providing information about the coronavirus pandemic, according to a the survey findings published on Saturday.

The Foundation for Municipal Development (Kunnallisalan kehittämissäätiö-Kaks), an independent, non-profit think-tank published the survey report where Niinistö and Marin got very good or fairly good rating from 69 per cent and 67 per cent of the respondents respectively.

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) also got good rating from 61 per cent respondents for its coronavirus communications and the present government as a whole got good rating from 57 per cent.

About 44 per cent respondents gave positive approval to the role of the media but 20 per cent termed the media’s role poor in coronavirus communications.

About a third (31%) respondents said that the role of the trade unions was weak in coronavirus communications while almost similar percentage of the respondents (30%) opined a lack of confidence in Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Krista Kiuru.

About 28 per cent respondents expressed dissatisfaction at the role of Interior Minister Maria Ohisalo and 27 per cent were dissatisfied with Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka.
